Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. The pacer has been sidelined since July following a left knee injury sustained during an ODI against England. Gavaskar maintains that the tournament serves as a necessary platform for Bumrah to accumulate competitive overs before India's tour of New Zealand. While Shreyas Iyer faces scrutiny following recent T20I results, Gavaskar expressed support for his leadership role. India faces a competitive field, with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan expected to challenge the title defense. The event also provides a development opportunity for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to compete alongside established athletes.
