Mike Thorpe, 57, unexpectedly swam six miles in the Swim Serpentine at Hyde Park after his wife, Susanna Thorpe, mistakenly registered him for the longer distance instead of one mile. Despite having a frozen shoulder and the cold water temperature at 16.9C (62F), Mike completed the swim using breaststroke, raising £4,500 for the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust. He described the challenge as "extremely scary" and found himself struggling at the finish, saying he could "hardly walk" afterward. The event included about 6,000 participants, with only 50 opting for the six-mile swim.
