Sydney Marathon mistakenly features German stadium on 40,000 finisher medals

Organizers of the Sydney Marathon have issued an apology after 40,000 participant medals were produced with an image of Munich's Allianz Arena rather than Sydney's Allianz Stadium. The medal design was intended to showcase landmarks along the 42.195 km race route, including the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Instead, the engraving incorrectly depicted the German football stadium located 16,330 km away from the race course. A Sydney Marathon spokesperson acknowledged the error regarding the international venue appearing on the finishers' hardware. The oversight occurred as part of a campaign to celebrate the topography of the local course through the inclusion of iconic sights.
