Tamil Nadu chief minister proposes new motor sports city in India

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay proposed the development of a Motor Sports City to expand regional racing infrastructure. The facility intends to host Formula 1, alongside feeder series including Formula 2, Formula 3, and Formula 4. This proposal aims to leverage the state’s existing automotive manufacturing sector and builds upon current Grade 2 and Grade 4 circuit facilities in Chennai and Coimbatore. While the initiative received support from former Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan, officials have provided no specific project timeline. The proposal arrives as ownership discussions continue for the Buddh International Circuit, which currently serves as India's only track capable of hosting Formula 1. State leaders plan to prioritize talent development for future racers, engineers, and mechanics through these new training facilities.
