Tampa Bay Buccaneers announce six team captains for the 2026 season

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finalized their leadership group for the 2026 season following a teammate vote. Six players will wear the captain’s designation, including returning captains Baker Mayfield, Tristan Wirfs, Vita Vea, and Antoine Winfield Jr. Chris Godwin returns to the leadership group, having previously held the role in 2023. Linebacker Alex Anzalone joins as a captain in his first season with the franchise after previously serving in that capacity for five years with the Detroit Lions. These selections follow the offseason departures of former captains Lavonte David, who retired after 14 seasons, and Mike Evans, who joined the San Francisco 49ers. The Buccaneers are scheduled to begin their regular season on September 13, 2026, with a road game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
