Tampa Bay Rays secure approval for new stadium in Hillsborough County

The Tampa Bay Rays have reached an agreement with the Hillsborough County Commission to construct a new $2.36 billion stadium in Tampa. Following two decades of planning, the franchise received approval for the project, which includes a mixed-use neighborhood and a reinvested campus at the Hillsborough College site. The Rays are set to fund approximately 63% of the total costs, a larger portion than recently reported figures for other professional sports stadium projects. Construction is scheduled to commence at the Dale Mabry Campus later this year. While current projections aim for a 2029 opening, the organization acknowledged the potential for development timelines to shift. The team currently plays at Tropicana Field, having moved there after playing the 2025 season at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
