Tanner Houck begins Minor League rehab assignment for the Red Sox

Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck will start a Minor League rehab assignment next week with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. Houck has been sidelined since May 12, 2025, while recovering from Tommy John surgery and a right flexor-pronator strain. The 30-year-old pitcher spent the last several weeks at the team facility in Fort Myers completing live batting-practice sessions and scrimmage outings. Interim manager Chad Tracy indicated that recent pitching sessions, where Houck averaged 93 mph, were an encouraging sign for his return. The organization aims to determine if Houck can contribute to the Major League roster before the conclusion of the 2026 regular season. Whether he returns as a starter or in a limited role remains to be decided based on his performance during the upcoming assignment.
