Tarleton State aims to transition from FCS to FBS football

Tarleton State University is exploring options to move from FCS to FBS football, building on its recent success and investment in athletics. Athletic Director Steve Uryasz confirmed discussions are ongoing with multiple FBS leagues regarding potential membership. The university spent $200 million on athletic facilities as part of a larger $1.5 billion campus development initiative since 2019. While there is no set timeline for the transition, Uryasz expressed hope for a shift within five years. Tarleton State boasts over 21,000 students and recently won the WAC Commissioner’s Cup.
