The Algerian men’s soccer team is using Lawrence as a base camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. On June 12, they held a community event at Rock Chalk Park, allowing fans to watch a training session and participate in a youth clinic. Deputy athletics director Jason Booker reported strong community support since the team's arrival.
