Teen rider Bayne Nantz dies following crash at Peoria TT

Fifteen-year-old amateur racer Bayne Nantz died Tuesday, Sept. 1, following injuries sustained during a heat race at the Peoria TT national championship event. The crash occurred Aug. 22 at the Peoria Motorcycle Race Club during the AFT ProSport 450 main event card. Nantz, who was riding for Nantz Brothers Racing, was involved in a collision with two other riders before being transported to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center. American Flat Track, the event's sanctioning body, confirmed the fatality Thursday. Local authorities, including Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins and Coroner Jamie Harwood, are investigating the incident. The family of the rider reported that he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury during the accident. Nantz will be an organ donor through Gift of Hope.
