Tenacity students from Massachusetts visit the US Open tennis tournament

Twelve students from the nonprofit organization Tenacity attended the U.S. Open in New York City on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Accompanied by four chaperones, the group from Massachusetts spent four hours observing professional matches and practice sessions at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The students, ranging in age from 8 to 13, received ground passes from the U.S. Tennis Association as part of a collaborative effort between the two entities. The participants watched American professionals including Taylor Fritz, Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton, and Taylor Townsend during their visit. Tenacity provides free tennis and literacy instruction to underserved children in communities such as Worcester, Boston, and Chelsea. Program director Mike Kennedy noted that the trip aimed to expose youth to the professional environment and encourage their ongoing interest in the sport.
