Tennessee features one Nigerian player in football history

Tennessee football, established in 1891, has had one player from Nigeria in its history. Offensive lineman Chris Akporoghene, who played for the Volunteers from 2019 to 2021, participated in seven games and graduated with a degree in communications. He later transferred to Tulsa and then Bowling Green, where he did not play in 2023 due to injury. Akporoghene, originally from Warri, Nigeria, had accolades during his high school career at The King's Academy and IMG Academy before joining Tennessee. He transferred to Florida A&M in 2024.
