Tennessee has announced that freshman Faizon Brandon will start at quarterback for the team's season opener against Furman on September 5, 2026. This marks the first time since Brent Schaeffer in 2004 that a true freshman has started a season opener for the Volunteers. Schaeffer earned this distinction after completing 7-of-10 passes for 123 yards and one touchdown against UNLV in his debut. Brandon secured the starting role after competing with sophomore George MacIntyre. The Vols will host Furman at Neyland Stadium in their opening game of the season.
