Texans backup QB Graham Mertz exits preseason game with knee injury

Houston Texans third-string quarterback Graham Mertz left the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers with a knee injury just before halftime. Mertz entered the game late in the first quarter after starter Davis Mills completed a touchdown pass. After scrambling for nine yards, Mertz appeared to be injured on the final play of the first half and did not return for the second half. Mills, who initially expected to only play one series, returned to replace Mertz as the Texans trail 13-7 at halftime.
