Texas A&M ranks second in SEC defensive coordinator rankings

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill have been ranked second in Athlon's SEC defensive coordinator rankings. Elko, who previously served as A&M's defensive coordinator, took over playcalling last season when former coordinator Jay Bateman left for Kentucky. The Aggies' defense ranked 18th overall in 2025 and was exceptional on third downs. With several key players leaving for the NFL, A&M is expected to rely on new transfer additions to maintain defensive strength this fall.
