Texas A&M unveils statue of former coach R.C. Slocum at Kyle Field

Texas A&M unveiled a 10-foot statue of R.C. Slocum on Friday outside the north end of Kyle Field. The ceremony occurred one day before the Aggies' 2026 season opener against the Missouri State Bears. Slocum holds the program record as the team's winningest head coach, having compiled a 123-47-2 record during his tenure from 1989 through 2002. Beyond his coaching achievements, which included three consecutive Southwest Conference titles and a Big 12 championship, Slocum served the university as a special adviser and interim athletic director. Current head coach Mike Elko attended the dedication, citing his admiration for Slocum's historical contributions to the football program. The sculpture, created by artist Steven White, is positioned near the All-American Towers.
