Texas moves DB Jordon Johnson-Rubell to linebacker after Smith's dismissal

Texas football announced a position change for Jordon Johnson-Rubell, transitioning him from defensive back to linebacker. This decision follows the dismissal of linebacker Ty'Anthony Smith due to conduct issues, leaving the Longhorns short on inside linebackers. With only seven scholarship linebackers remaining, coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp chose to adapt Johnson-Rubell's role, citing his size and experience. Johnson-Rubell, now weighing 212 pounds, previously saw diminished playing time in the safety position last season but is noted for his tackling skills in run support.
