Texas Tech defense defeats Abilene Christian 33-10 in season opener

Texas Tech began its season with a 33-10 victory over Abilene Christian at Galaxy Stadium on Saturday. Despite missing two starters, the Red Raiders held the Wildcats to 75 rushing yards throughout the contest. Defensive end Jamond Mathis recorded 2.5 sacks and six tackles to lead the unit. Head coach Joey McGuire reported that defensive end Trey White remains week-to-week with a knee injury, while safety Brenden Jordan will miss the upcoming game against Oregon State following a violation of team rules.
