The NFL ends the annual Pro Bowl all-star game

The NFL has announced the permanent cancellation of its annual all-star showcase, effectively ending the tradition of a Pro Bowl game. While the league will continue to name 88 players as Pro Bowlers at the end of each season, it will no longer host a replacement or exhibition match. Commissioner Goodell stated the decision follows consultation with players who indicated they prefer to be honored as Pro Bowl selections rather than participating in a competition that does not meet league standards. The event had previously transitioned from a traditional football game to a format featuring flag football, dodgeball, and skills challenges to mitigate injury risks. This change marks the end of a long-standing NFL tradition dating back to 1938, excluding the 2021 season.
