The Panthers finalize their initial 53-player roster for the season

The Panthers reached their 53-man roster limit on August 30 by waiving 16 players and terminating the contracts of 10 vested veterans. Among the players waived were cornerbacks DeCarlos Nicholson, Cam Miller, Devonta Smith, and Corey Thornton, along with wide receivers Casey Washington and Ja'seem Reed. The team also released several veterans, including quarterback Kyle Trask, tight end James Mitchell, and safety Isaiah Simmons. Additionally, Trevor Etienne and Bam Martin-Scott were placed on injured reserve, while Taylor Moton, Ikem Ekwonu, and Tershawn Wharton were moved to reserve lists for health reasons. In a separate roster move, the team traded a 2028 sixth-round draft pick to the Chargers in exchange for defensive tackle TeRah Edwards. The Panthers are scheduled to establish their practice squad on Monday as they continue to refine their roster for the upcoming season.
