Thekla clarifies relationship status with Clark Connors during interview

Earlier this month, as Thekla was starting a Forbidden Door angle with her former promotion Stardom, I casually mentioned that I didn’t think the Toxic Spider “has stood out” on Dynamite and Collision since winning the AEW Women’s World championship earlier this year. It was called a “ridiculous” opinion, and “the worst” take ever from a Cageside staff member. I’m bringing it up three weeks later, because… well, obviously because it still stings a little. But I also bring it up to emphasis that I remain a big Thekla fan, think she does everything in her power to stand out as champ, and just needs the right match or program to turn up the volume on her reign. And I wanted to emphasize that because during her recent appearance on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, she reminded me why I believe those things. The Austrian is a fun interview, so there were actually several in her nearly half-hour conversation with hosts Branson Quirke and Roger Corral. The one referenced in the headline happens when Quirke asks Thekla about dating her AEW co-worker Clark Connors — and in Branson’s defense, I have also seen this stated as fact online as well. Thekla and Connors have talked about their relationship over the years; she did in this 2024 interview with Graspody. New Japan and Stardom have also used it to promote their work as the “Clark & Tex” mixed tag team, and when their War Dogs and HATE factions worked together. But they’re not dating, per the champ. Here’s how the Triangle of Madness leader handled it on Inside The Ropes. Quirke: This is TMZ. We like talking relationships. So, I want to talk about your relationship with Clark Connors. You guys have been together for a couple years now. Is it is it more difficult dating someone in your profession, like wrestling… or like a normie on the outside? Thekla: Well, I don’t know where you actually picked that up from, that we’re dating. We’re very close… Quirke: Wait, I’m sorry. I could have sworn I saw that online. I’m sorry… Thekla: Oh did you? Well, name everything you see on the internet… [all laugh] Quirke: How about this? Give me the closure on this [all laugh]… do you think it’s a good idea for wrestlers to date other wrestlers? Thekla: Uh, is it detrimental? I think I’m not sure if it’s a good idea, per se. Everything is everybody’s a good-looking and and horny from what I can [laughter] tell really. But I think it’s a good idea in a way that… it’s hard to probably date somebody who isn’t immersed in your world as we live very strange lives as professional wrestlers. I wouldn’t want to… it’s hard to explain all that, all the travel and all the horniness. [laughter] Cageside is much the same way with “all the horniness”, so I get it. Seriously though, personality like that is why I’m a big Thekla fan. And that’s why I am confident she’s got even better days ahead of her, despite my apparently dog##!+ opinions on her current run.
