Thomas Carty falls from ring against Dave Allen at Croke Park

Heavyweights Dave Allen and Thomas Carty fought in the co-main event at Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday. During the opening round, Carty engaged in a clinch with Allen and appeared to be struck in the back of the head by a short punch. Carty stumbled forward and fell head-first through the ropes to the outside of the ring. Medical staff and physicians attended to him at ringside following the fall. After several minutes, officials determined that Carty could not continue due to his condition. The bout was officially ruled a no-contest.

"Katie Taylor’s final fight might have been overshadowed by a scary moment in the co-main event. Heavyweights Dave Allen and Thomas Carty faced off in the penultimate bout of Saturday’s card at Croke Park in Dublin in what could have been a showcase bout for Ireland’s Carty. Unfortunately, midway through the opening round, Carty somehow ended up tumbling head-first to the outside of the ring after getting tangled up with Allen. Watch the strange moment below. However, as he looked to press the advantage, he turned his head in the clinch just as Allen was throwing a short shot and it looked to have struck Carty right in the back of the head. A dazed Carty stumbled forward and fell through the ropes, and shortly after he was attended to by staff and physicians at ringside. Allen was left in the ring to figure out what happened, but there were few answers in the moment. After several awkward minutes, it was ruled that Carty was unable to continue, possibly due to an injury suffered during the fall. The bout was officially ruled a no-contest.
