The Detroit Tigers are evaluating whether to trade ace Tarik Skubal as the MLB trade deadline approaches. Skubal, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, is a pending free agent and has been a trade candidate amid the Tigers' struggles this season. While the Tigers have shown improved performance recently, they remain under.500 and face significant competition for postseason spots. There's a debate on whether keeping Skubal could help the team's chances or if trading him now could yield valuable returns for the future. The decision is complicated by ongoing tension between Skubal and the Tigers' front office regarding contract talks.
- •Skubal is a two-time Cy Young Award winner.
- •The Tigers currently hold a six-game deficit in the AL Central.
- •Contract talks between Skubal and the Tigers have reportedly stalled.
- •Tigers are balancing potential postseason chances against Skubal's rental value.
- •Better recent results could influence the decision to keep Skubal.
