While his physical stature previously led to outside skepticism regarding his slugging capacity, manager AJ Hinch noted that McGonigle’s barrel contact and strike zone management are driving his success. The rookie has recorded 14 home runs, 24 doubles, and three triples through 503 at-bats this season. McGonigle also maintains a disciplined approach, leading all rookies with 81 walks. Most recently, he hit a walk-off hit against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 2-1 victory on August 29. Hinch expressed that the team expected this power surge as the infielder adjusted to major league play and continues to command the strike zone.
