Tigers pitchers Flaherty and Verlander prepare for return to mound

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch announced that right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty will throw a simulated game at Comerica Park on Saturday, Sept. 12. Flaherty, who has been sidelined with right flexor tendon inflammation, is expected to pitch 2-3 innings against team batters. Fellow right-hander Justin Verlander is scheduled for a designed up-down bullpen session on the same day as he works to return from a hamstring strain. While Flaherty appears further along in his rehabilitation, the organization has not established a firm return timeline for either pitcher. In other injury news, outfielder Kerry Carpenter is increasing activity on his injured heel, though he remains limited. Meanwhile, outfielder Wenceel Pérez is unlikely to play again this season due to an orbital fracture. Additionally, right-hander Keider Montero is away from the team for the birth of his child, with Andrew Sears expected to be activated in his place.
