The Detroit Tigers have signed left-hander Austin Gomber to a minor league contract following trades of Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Casey Mize to the San Diego Padres. Gomber, 32, has not pitched in the majors this season and posted a 7.49 ERA in 12 starts with the Colorado Rockies last year. The Tigers' need for rotation depth prompted this move, as Gomber could provide long relief options if the bullpen gets taxed. His time will initially come in Toledo, allowing him to stay stretched out as a starter.
