North Dakota State head coach Tim Polasek is preparing his team for their first Mountain West Conference game this Saturday against Air Force. The Bison, who have transitioned to the FBS level, currently hold a 28-3 record under Polasek since he took over the program in 2024. Polasek, a native of Iola, Wisconsin, attributes his coaching philosophy to his background working in the logging and steel industries. Following wins over Jacksonville State and Fordham to open their schedule, the Bison join the Mountain West alongside UTEP and Northern Illinois. The conference added the new members following the departure of five schools to the Pac-12 earlier this year. Polasek brings experience from previous coaching roles at Wyoming and Iowa to his current position at North Dakota State.

"The effort and energy Tim Polasek has poured into North Dakota State's football program on the climb to the FBS can be easily sourced back to his rural roots. As a small-college quarterback on summer and winter breaks, and later to supplement a meager income as he launched a career in coaching, Polasek worked grueling jobs as a logger in the woods of central Wisconsin and on the overnight shift at a steel mill near his tiny hometown of Iola. “I learned a lot there: That could be you if you don't graduate college and pursue something,” said Polasek, who is 28-3 with the Bison since becoming head coach in 2024.
