TNA hints at canceling Slammiversary main event as tensions rise

The main event plan for TNA Slammiversary this Sunday is Mike Santana defending the world title against Nic Nemeth. TNA worked a mini angle on Impact (June 25, 2026) to tease canceling the match. Santana and Nemeth met for a Slammiversary World Title Summit. The scene was a promo exchange in a backstage room amped up with production. The gist was Nemeth downplaying Santana’s success as just one good year whereas he has 23 good years in his career. Santana dug in at Nemeth as a poser to claim he is here for TNA. When Nemeth gallivanted for paydays on international tours, Santana put in the work to carry TNA through dark times. Santana’s point is that he is the company man, while Nemeth doesn’t actually care about TNA. Tensions turned hot when Nemeth crossed the line with a deeply personal insult. He said that at least Santana’s deceased father isn’t still around to watch him fail one more time. TNA president Carlos Silva threatened fines for any fighting here. Santana turned to Silva and asked cash or check. Santana popped a sucker punch to Nemeth. Ryan Nemeth hit Santana with the force of a fly. Santana choked Ryan, and that allowed Nic to get the upper hand on Santana. Nic smashed Santana’s head onto the world title belt. Commentary teased that Santana may not be medically cleared to compete in the Slammiversary main event. Don’t worry. This isn’t a case of full-blown LOLTNA with the current world champion leaving in free agency to WWE. In fact, this situation was resolved in the same night on Impact. Santana may depart in coming weeks as rumors suggest, however, he is still scheduled for the PPV. The closing segment of Impact saw Nemeth tease that Santana would be out of action. Nemeth wanted Silva to crown him world champion right now. The good is that it turned up the heat to make this personal. Santana should deliver great intensity at Slammiversary. The bad was the cheesiness in asking viewers to believe that a simple head smash to the title belt would be severe enough to cancel the PPV main event. Santana’s been through much worse in hardcore matches in TNA, and he never stopped swinging. One question I have is how big will Silva make the fine for Santana throwing the first punch.
