Tom Doak launches new scholarship for golf-course architecture students

Golf-course architect Tom Doak has established a biennial scholarship program aimed at supporting emerging professionals in the field of course design. The Doak Award provides financial assistance for travel and educational study, requiring applicants to submit personalized proposals detailing their intended programs. This initiative is modeled after the Dreer Award, which Doak received during his own studies at Cornell in the early 1980s. To assist recipients with the high costs of visiting courses, Doak plans to coordinate lodging and mentorship opportunities with former clients and fellow architects. Candidates must submit proposals by November 1, 2026, to be considered for the inaugural cycle. Three finalists will undergo interviews in early 2027, with the final selection set for announcement in the fall of 2028.
