Tony D'Angelo retains NXT Championship at Great American Bash

Naraku used a fireball in a contract to get the upper hand on NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo on NXT television this past week, leading to some doubt that their NXT title match would even take place at tonight’s (Sun., June 28, 2026) Great American Bash premium live event at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. In the end, Tony D went Two-Face and just wrapped himself up and agreed to duke it out with one eye. They opened the broadcast on The CW, and it took very little time for Naraku to target the eye and the referee to make like he was going to stop it. The Don demanded he allow the match to continue. Why the official would just go along with it because the champ said he wanted that is beyond me, but that’s what happened. It worked out for him in the end too, because he just went out and beat Naraku clean. All the talk of EVIL taking over NXT, and despite the massive advantage the former New Japan Pro Wrestling star gave himself, Tony D just went out and beat him clean to retain the title.
