Tony Khan updates on Steven Borden's condition after AEW All Out injuries

Following its All Out PPV on Saturday night in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, we had to wait quite a bit longer than usual for AEW’s post-show media scrum to get started this morning (Sept. 27). That was presumed to be so we could get the latest update on Steven Borden. Sting’s son was concussed on a spot during his match with Darby Allin against Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher. Borden and Knight each went for a coast-to-coast at the same time, and the newcomer was knocked out either by their awkward mid-air collision — the consensus among fans and media folks seems to be that Knight and Borden were going to lariat one another — or when he hit his head on the mat while landing. AEW’s announce team gave us two updates on Borden during the show, which told us he was awake and talking at the hospital AEW medical accompanied him to. We also learned that El Hijo del Sting could recall the match in which he was injured on Saturday night, his PPV debut at NOW Arena. Borden’s condition was basically the first thing AEW president and booker Tony Khan spoke about when the post-show finally got started: “First and foremost, I wanted to get down to business and say, I have a great update. Thankfully, Steven Borden —awake, responsive at the hospital, and he had a CT scan and all the tests have come back good, so far all good results, and we’re hopeful Steven’s gonna be able to fly home tomorrow to his family. So that’s great news…” That is welcome news, and not what I expected from the few seconds of Borden post-concussion that were shown on the All Out broadcast. There’s already a lot of debate and discussion of the spot Steven Borden was injured on, and that The Icon’s 34-year-old son was in this spot at all. What their shouldn’t be debate about is that AEW handled this injury well in terms of stopping the match and getting Borden immediate help. Had they not, perhaps Khan’s update wouldn’t have been as great. Allin and Borden’s tag bout wasn’t the only All Out match in which wrestlers got hurt, though. Before post-show host Renee Paquette brought out World champion Will Ospreay, Khan said: “It was an awesome PPV, Renee. We had a lot of wrestlers banged up, a lot of injuries. And with a lot of wrestlers getting checked out right now by the doctors, it’s gonna be not as many guests tonight [at the media scrum]…” Ospreay ended up being the only wrestler to join TK and Paquette at the presser, which means there are lots of roster members who could possibly be “banged up”. We’ll certainly hear more about them in the coming days…
