Top amateur Preston Stout misses match play at U.S. Amateur

Preston Stout, the world’s top-ranked amateur, will not advance to match play at the 126th U.S. Amateur after finishing with a 6-over score in stroke play. Stout recorded a 5-over 75 in the first round and a 1-over 71 in the second, failing to register a birdie until his 28th hole. In contrast, Tyler Watts and Miles Russell, ranked Nos. 3 and 4, both shot a combined 9 under across their 36 holes, comfortably advancing to the match play segment. Stout will next compete in the Walker Cup scheduled for next month at Lahinch, where he will join both Watts and Russell, who are also part of the U.S. squad.
