Toronto Blue Jays promote outfielder Rudy Martin Jr for MLB debut

The Toronto Blue Jays are selecting the contract of journeyman outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, September 11. This promotion marks the first MLB opportunity for the 30-year-old following a professional career that has spanned 614 minor league games over 12 seasons. Martin was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 25th round of the 2014 MLB draft. He joined the Blue Jays organization in July after being claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. Since joining Toronto's top farm team, Martin recorded a slash line of.253/.351/.379 with 12 stolen bases. His journey to the major leagues included stints in independent baseball, the Mexican League, and the Dominican Republic before returning to affiliated ball in 2025.
