Toronto Maple Leafs appoint Jim Hiller as new head coach

The Toronto Maple Leafs have named Jim Hiller as their new head coach following a significant front office and staff overhaul directed by general manager John Chayka. Hiller, who previously served as an assistant under Mike Babcock and coached with the Los Angeles Kings, joins assistants Daniel Alfredsson, Brad Werenka, and John Gruden. The organization seeks to revitalize the team's offense after two seasons of declining goal totals from captain Auston Matthews. NHL analyst Chris Johnston projects that Hiller will adjust his usage of Matthews to increase scoring opportunities and improve the power play. The team opens training camp later this month, with their first exhibition game scheduled against the Montreal Canadiens on Sept. 19 at the Bell Centre.
