Torricelli Simpkins III joins Carolina Panthers practice squad after Saints release

Offensive lineman Torricelli Simpkins III has signed with the Carolina Panthers practice squad following his release from the New Orleans Saints. The Charlotte native returns to his hometown after initially joining the Saints as an undrafted free agent last offseason. During his time in New Orleans, Simpkins appeared in two games before transitioning to center this summer. He was unable to win the backup center position behind Erik McCoy, leading the team to move on in favor of William Sherman. Simpkins now joins a division rival as he looks to continue his career within the NFC South. The two teams are scheduled to face each other during the upcoming season, providing an opportunity for Simpkins to potentially see his former club.
