Toyota plans for Ryo Hirakawa potentially replacing Esteban Ocon at Haas F1

Toyota is preparing for the possibility that WEC driver Ryo Hirakawa replaces Esteban Ocon at Haas for the 2027 F1 season. While no final decision has been made by the American team, Esteban Ocon faces performance questions after contributing only three points compared to teammate Oliver Bearman’s 18 points this season. Ryo Hirakawa, currently a Haas reserve driver, tested alongside Rafael Camara and Leonardo Fornaroli at Portimao last week as part of an evaluation process for the 2027 roster. Toyota Racing technical director David Floury confirmed that the manufacturer has formulated a succession plan for its WEC driver regardless of the outcome. Ryo Hirakawa stated he remains focused on the current WEC campaign while planning to hold discussions regarding his F1 prospects next week.
