The Toronto Blue Jays are pursuing a wild card spot while awaiting the return of injured starting pitchers Trey Yesavage and Shane Bieber. Yesavage, sidelined since August 5 with right knee inflammation, threw a 34-pitch bullpen session at the team’s spring training complex on Monday. He is scheduled to face live hitters on Thursday. Shane Bieber, out since August 24 due to right teres major inflammation, extended his flat-ground throwing to 75 feet on Monday. Manager John Schneider stated that Bieber could potentially return to throwing off a mound within the week. Both pitchers have previously spent time on the injured list this season for separate arm injuries. Toronto enters its Tuesday game against the Athletics holding a 72-72 record and remains half a game behind the final American League wild card position.
