Trick Williams challenges Baron Corbin for SummerSlam title match

We’re five days away from the 2026 edition of SummerSlam, which is again a two-night event for WWE this year. Pro wrestling/sports entertainment’s biggest party of the summer comes to Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium this weekend, Sat., Aug. 1 and Sun., Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT on ESPN Unlimited or Netflix, depending on whether or not you’re in the United States. SummerSlam’s card is set, but the company hasn’t officially let us in on which matches run on which night. Putting Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi’s Hell in a Cell on the same night as the CM Punk/Cody Rhodes WWE title tilt makes me thing Lesnar will be on the free TV hour again as he has in the past… question is whether that’s because Brock likes to leave early, ESPN wants him as a draw to lure people into subscribing to Unlimited for the paid portion of the show and beyond, or both. WWE has answered the who, what, where, and why for SummerSlam. The only question left is when. As of Sunday, WWE had yet to officially announce which matches would take place on each night of this year’s two-night event. It did something similar ahead of WrestleMania 42 this year, which drew criticism from one of its own stars, Nikki Bella. “I feel like they need to start letting superstars tell people what night they’re competing,” Bella said in April during an episode of The Nikki & Brie Show with her sister Brie. She explained that revealing each night’s lineup helps fans who can’t attend both shows decide which card to attend. “Let them buy that one night,” Bella urged. According to ticket tracker WrestleTix last week, WWE had distributed less than a combined 60,000 tickets for this year’s show at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium, which boasts a 66,000-seat capacity. Earlier this month, the Wrestling Observer reported that WWE was concerned over lower-than-expected SummerSlam ticket sales. The Card While fans wait for WWE to announce which matches will take place this coming weekend, the card itself appears to be set, with 12 matches announced. The event streams live on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT on the ESPN App in the United States with an ESPN Unlimited plan, and on Netflix internationally. It will also be shown live at select theaters nationwide, with tickets available through Fandango.

SmackDown was recently cut down to two hours, and that just isn’t enough time to cram in all of WWE creative’s incredible ideas for everyone on the roster. The latest example of that pattern happened tonight (July 24) when Baron Corbin attacked United States Champion Trick Williams after SmackDown went off the air. Trick had just competed in a 4-way main event match against Finn Balor, Royce Keys, and Damian Priest. As Williams left the ring and gave high fives to WWE fans at ringside, Baron suddenly came through the audience to blast the champ. Baron took his leave after the beating was over, but Trick wouldn’t stay down. He grabbed a mic and challenged Corbin to a one-on-one match at SummerSlam. Corbin was happy to accept, and said he’s going home with the championship. I don’t think the match is official quite yet, but WWE wouldn’t have shot this angle if it wasn’t happening. Once WWE confirms this title match between Trick and Baron, it will join the following list of 11 other matches that are already announced for SummerSlam next weekend (Aug. 1 & 2) in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
