Ty Simpson was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams as the 13th overall pick, surprising many observers. Former NFL executives have questioned his selection, suggesting he is unlikely to rise above a backup role in the league. Simpson's development could be hindered as he shares snaps with fellow quarterback Stetson Bennett during offseason practice. With Matthew Stafford expected to retire after this season, Simpson may need to impress quickly to secure his position. He remains unsigned as only two first-round picks from 2026 lack contracts, potentially complicating his path forward.

- •Critics suggest he may only be a career backup.
- •Matthew Stafford is expected to retire after this season.
