Tyson Fury criticizes Anthony Joshua over fight negotiations
Summary

Tyson Fury expressed doubts regarding a potential fight with Anthony Joshua during a press conference on August 21, 2026. Fury claimed that a delay in finalizing the match stems from Joshua's side demanding more financial backing, which has caused setbacks in venue selection. Originally set to take place in the UK, the promoters shifted plans to host the bout in the United States, leading to objections from Joshua's camp. Fury questioned the commitment to the fight, urging Joshua to either agree to the terms or withdraw altogether to allow Fury to pursue other opportunities.

The pair were originally announced to have signed on for a fight that was initially to take place in England, but when the financiers of the fight shifted their plans to stage the fight in America it got some proper push back from Joshua’s side. It’s been some time now and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn admits they’ve still made no headway in trying to push for the fight to be held in front of the local UK fans, and now Fury takes to social media in a stream of Instagram story posts where he questions whether the fight will happen at all. “Quick update for you,” Fury posted on his Instagram. “Doesn’t look like they’re going to sign the fight and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, all because Eddie Hearn and them want more money. They’ve already had that much money off of Turki in the last few years, Eddie and AJ, yeah. They’ve had boxing deals, they have darts deals, they’ve had snooker deals, they’ve had everything. And yet they’ve got the audacity and cheek of flea-bitten rats to ask for more money from ol’ Turki. That’s devious…Keep running you little cowards. “All this talk of ‘we want the fight in England’…It’s only to get more money to go to America. Look at the money you’ve had off Turki, and yet you still ask to do darts deals and snooker deals off the back of my fights that’s got f-ck all to do with you, Eddie. You’re a small percentage of Joshua’s wages. You’re not the promoter… “I’ve bent over backwards to make this fight happen. First of all it was in England, then it was in Ireland, then it was in America. I said I’ll go anywhere. I’m not interested in where the fight is, I just want to fight. I’m match fit, I’m ready to rock and roll, baby.” Fury would eventually push for Joshua to acquiesce or abandon the fight altogether so he can move on with his career.
