In the midst of all the drama surrounding a proposed heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, Fury sits down to share some of his thoughts and explains why he thinks his opponent is looking for a way to weasel out of a fight he doesn’t want to go through with. “Yesterday afternoon, this time, they were booking me my plane tickets back to London for the press conference on Wednesday,” Fury said. “ Then about four hours later I gets a phone call saying they’re trying to pull out the fight, they’re making excuses… “They’ve been trying to get out of this since they signed it. I think they signed for embarrassment sake, and ever since they been trying to get out of this fight. First of all, it was ‘we’re going to stick to our contract for London’…I was told it was Las Vegas, then it was London, then it was New York, then it was back to London, back to New York, and now Cardiff. And in the beginning I signed the contract to the do fight in Ireland, in Croke Park. “So if I would’ve stuck to my contact, this fight wouldn’t have happened, would it? But I’ve been moving the goal post all the time. There’s nothing I haven’t agreed to — nothing. I’ll even tie concrete blocks to my boots to make this fight happen. “How ridiculous does that sound [that Dana White’s involvement is now the roadblock]. Like, a promoter who is not actually the promoter of the fight, nor can he be the promoter of the fight ever — he cannot be the promoter of this fight, Eddie Hearn. Categorically, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom are not a promoter of this fight, no way. Contractually they are not allowed to be the promoter, so now you got a spoiled little posh boy chucking his dummies out the pram because Dana White’s involved. “…because [Hearn] doesn’t have the money to do it then I know a man who does — Turki Alalshikh. So he’s put the money up along with my broadcasting network and Netflix. Without them, this fight doesn’t happen…So, they’ve got to crack on with it because the paymaster says he wants Dana involved and Dana’s gonna be involved. “1% [chance this fight happens]. If you’ve got a guy who wants to fight and a guy who doesn’t want to fight, then how you going to make that fight happen? “Turki will tell them in a minute see ya later, bye-bye. I’ve already heard last night they were trying for other big names, replacements, like David Benavidez. What a fight that would be. That would be unbelievable. The only thing is, with David Benavidez it would be about four, five times harder than Joshua. I’ll take it because that’s what I do. There’s not a man on this earth that I won’t fight, not a singular person, but never, ever, ever think Joshua’s a tougher fight than David Benavidez. Benavidez stops Joshua in about three rounds.”
