UAA and UAF volleyball teams sweep opponents as Alaska prep play continues

The University of Alaska Anchorage volleyball team earned its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory of the season Thursday, sweeping Seattle Pacific in three sets at the Alaska Airlines Center. The Seawolves were led by Lee Ivakina, who recorded 11 kills and 13 digs, and Hannah Trotter, who contributed 27 assists. Concurrently, the University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball team swept Montana State Billings in three sets, with Cori Leavitt and Haylee Lyons each securing eight kills. In the high school ranks, Dimond extended its undefeated run against in-state competition by sweeping Bartlett. North Pole high school's flag football team also improved its winning streak to six games following a 34-13 road victory over Wasilla. Meanwhile, Anchorage native Brandon Pili participated in the Seattle Seahawks' 13-10 season-opening win against the New England Patriots on Wednesday.
