UCF and South Florida football rivalry remains on hiatus for five years

The longstanding football rivalry between UCF and South Florida, known as the War on I-4, will not resume for at least five years. The series has been dormant since 2022 due to shifting conference affiliations and changes in institutional financial models. UCF director of athletics Terry Mohajir and South Florida athletics CEO Rob Higgins confirmed they remain at an impasse regarding scheduling terms. While UCF requires two guaranteed home games against non-Power Four opponents for revenue purposes, South Florida has proposed home-and-home series or neutral site matchups. The two programs played for 10 consecutive seasons after reuniting in the American Athletic Conference in 2013, but UCF's move to the Big 12 in 2023 altered the scheduling. No formal agreement is currently in place to renew the series between the two Florida schools.
