UCLA defeats Cal in season opener as Bob Chesney receives game ball

UCLA opened the season with a 45-21 victory over Cal on Saturday night. The score was tied 21-21 entering the fourth quarter before the Bruins pulled away to secure the win for head coach Bob Chesney. Following the contest, quarterback Nico Iamaleava presented Chesney with the game ball inside the locker room. Several transfers from James Madison, including wide receiver Landon Ellis and running back Wayne Knight, played key roles in the result. Linebacker Sammy Omosigho contributed 14 tackles and a strip-sack, while Ta’Shawn James recorded two second-half interceptions to help the defense. UCLA now prepares to shift its focus toward upcoming Big Ten Conference competition.
