Uefa suspends Matteo Guendouzi for two Champions League matches

Uefa has handed Fenerbahce midfielder Matteo Guendouzi a two-match ban following incidents during a Champions League qualifying victory over Lyon. The 27-year-old was penalized for insulting opposing players and provoking spectators during the August 26 match, which concluded in a 2-1 win for the Turkish club. Guendouzi received a 50,000 euro fine after officials cited him for making obscene gestures and shouting slogans directed at Lyon fans. The disciplinary ruling also includes a 30,000 euro fine and a suspended one-game ban for teammate Mason Greenwood. Additionally, Lyon goalkeeper coach Antonio Ferreira received a three-match Europa League ban for a physical altercation involving a leaping kick directed at Guendouzi. Guendouzi will miss Fenerbahce’s upcoming fixtures against Roma and Aston Villa but remains eligible for the club’s subsequent league phase matches.
