UFC releases lightweight Thiago Moises after 16-fight tenure

His last octagon appearance took place in April in Canada, when he lost a split decision to Gauge Young at UFC Winnipeg. The 31-year-old signed with the UFC after a first-round knockout at Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018 and scored finishes in half of his UFC wins, including submissions over King Green, Christos Giagos and Melquizael Costa. Moises has shared the cage with athletes who are still among the elite of the UFC across multiple divisions including future lightweight and welterweight champion Islam Makhachev. Moises and Arman Tsarukyan are the only fighters to ever secure takedowns against Makhachev in the UFC. A former RFA lightweight champion, Moises walks away from the UFC with a professional record of 19-10 after going 8-8 under the company’s banner. While he has been removed from the UFC roster, the promotion could potentially still re-sign Moises at a later date but as of now he’s no longer under conract with the organization.
