Umpire Manny Gonzalez exits Padres-Reds game after suffering heat exhaustion

MLB home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez exited Monday's game between the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds during the fifth inning. The game, held at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, featured game-time temperatures reaching 91 degrees with high humidity. Gonzalez collapsed on the field and required assistance from Reds trainer Tomas Vera and others to leave the playing surface. Medical personnel treated the veteran umpire for dehydration and elevated blood pressure. According to reports, his blood pressure has since returned to normal levels and he is resting comfortably. First base umpire DJ Reyburn moved behind the plate to complete the contest in Gonzalez's place. Gonzalez has served as an MLB umpire since 2010 and maintains a 30-year career within the industry.
