Home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez left the San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds game on Monday night after suffering from heat exhaustion. The incident occurred at the end of the fourth inning at Great American Ball Park on a humid evening with temperatures near 90 degrees. Gonzalez collapsed outside the batter's box, requiring medical attention from the Reds' training staff for 14 minutes. While a cart was initially deployed to the field, Gonzalez was eventually able to walk to the dugout under his own power. Medical personnel treated him for dehydration and elevated blood pressure, both of which reportedly stabilized following the event. The game continued with a three-person crew as DJ Reyburn moved from first base to take over duties behind the plate. Ron Kulpa shifted to first base and Tom Hanahan assumed the third base position for the remainder of the contest.
