University of Houston football special assistant Donn Landholm is scheduled to meet the stranger who provided him a life-saving stem cell donation at a Cougars game this Saturday. Landholm, who coached for 40 years, was diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, a rare blood cancer, while working at the university. He underwent five rounds of chemotherapy at MD Anderson throughout late 2023 while maintaining his coaching duties. After his family members were not a match, Landholm relied on a donor from the National Marrow Donor Program Registry. The donor, Morgan Chalup, registered after her own father-in-law received a successful transplant in 2021. The two will meet in person for the first time following a required one-year waiting period for donor-recipient anonymity. Landholm previously supported the Get in the Game program, which encourages college athletes to join the donor registry.
