U.S. Ryder Cup team updates 2027 qualifying process to points-based system

The U.S. Ryder Cup team announced a new qualifying system for the 2027 matches in Ireland, marking the third consecutive modification to the selection process. Players will earn points solely during the calendar year leading up to the competition, beginning at The American Express in California and concluding at the BMW Championship at Liberty National in New Jersey. The revised criteria removes PGA Tour earnings as a factor, opting instead for a distribution list that awards 3,000 points to major winners, 2,850 to the winner of The Players Championship, 2,250 to signature event winners, and 1,500 to winners of regular PGA Tour events. Six players will secure automatic spots based on their points total, while Jim Furyk retains authority to select the final six members of the team following the Tour Championship. The next Ryder Cup is scheduled for September 17-19, 2027, at Adare Manor, where the U.S. team seeks to regain the trophy.
